It took a little while to find, but the solution is simple. The same thing happened to a POP3 widget connecting my Gmail account on my NetVibes page. It went round in a circle saying that my password was invalid (don’t try and reset it, it won’t make any difference). I had the same issue, and waited until Google prevented Windows Live Mail (WLM) from accessing my gmail account, which happened on June 8th 2022.
